Vancouver Folk Music Festival

The 2018 lineup includes names well-known to folk fans and lovers of great music everywhere.
 
Along with Neko Case and Ry Cooder, the great Rodney Crowell is coming to the festival, alomng with 2018 Traditional Roots JUNO winners, The Dead South, master singer-songwriter James McMurtry; the glorious Sea Island sounds of Ranky Tanky; and the electrifying Mozambique rhythms of Wazimbo and Banda Kakana.
 
Also celebrating local star on the global stage Alex Cuba, the powerful voice and music of Iskwé, the legendary Ms. Carole Pope, the Bayou barnstorming Cajun tunes of Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys, the powerhouse songs and voices of Three Women & the Truth, and a much-anticipated visit from the great Archie Roach from Australia. 
 
 

Fans of the music of the world have a bounty of sound to enjoy. The boundary-busting music of Ukraine’s Dakhabrakha will electrify festival stages; there’s Argentine tango revolutionary, Melingo; Mexican son jarocho from Son de Madera; two outstanding singer/songwriters from Ireland – Wallis Bird and Mick Flannery; and a cosmopolitan duo from Italy – Ilaria Graizano and Franco Forni.
 
The lineup also offers a stunning insight into the rich depth and diversity of the talented artists on our own doorstep. There’s Ezra Kwizera’s African sounds; A Familia Machado, featuring guitar wizard Celso Machado in concert with his renowned brother, Filó and Filó’s grandson Felipe here from Brazil; Dálava's shimmering homage to traditional Moravian (Czech) folksong; Gord Grdina’s Haram, celebrating Arabic and Persian music; and Las Estrellas de Vancouver, a scintillating all-woman mariachi group. And those are but a few!
